FAQ

What is a drone?

A drone is an unmanned aircraft commonly referred to as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or UAV’s for short. Before 2016, if a person wanted to fly a drone commercially, they had to go and get a full on pilots license. In the recent years the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has determined that a pilots license is not required to fly drones commercially. Instead, a person must pass an FAA written test to be certified. When passed, they are now considered a Certified Remote Pilot. No test is required for a person to fly drones recreationally.

What is on the FAA Written Test?

The FAA Certified Remote Pilot written test covers a wide variety of information related to aviation. The big topics include weather, airport operations, airspace, drone restrictions and drone requirements. It’s important for a drone pilot to understand and abide by laws that are made to protect manned-aircraft and people and property on the ground.

Are you qualified and insured to fly a drone around my property?

Yes. In 2021 I graduated from Utah State University in Aviation Management with an emphasis in Unmanned Aerial Systems. I began flying drones in 2018 when I realized how amazing these tools are for video and photo production.

Additionally, I received my Private Pilots License in 2013. Having the manned-pilot background allows me to fully understand how important is to be safe and follow the rules of drone operation.

I am insured through Skywatch with $1,000,000 in liability insurance.

I’m happy to provide any documentation before I fly. I want everybody to feel safe and comfortable.
